.Broadfoot's Pension Record Search __  provides copies of your Union soldier's ( AL, FL., VA., SC Conf. soldier's) official military pension documents.  These documents relate to any applications for a pension claim by your soldier, or your soldier's widow.  The records can contain death certificates, letters or affidavits from officers, doctors, siblings, and neighbors, the soldier's application in his own handwriting, children's birth records, and even pages from family Bibles.  There could also be pay vouchers, muster rolls, parole material, hospital admission slips, and a marriage license. Pension records quite often unearth new discoveries about Civil War soldiers that were unknown to families!

We have no way of knowing or estimating the bulk of content beforehand, but your soldier's pension records could be a treasure trove of family information – a wealth of personal and family genealogical information not found anywhere else.

What was your soldier's last address?  Who were your soldier's neighbors? How many siblings did your soldier have, and where did they live?  Was your soldier married more than once?  Find out more about your Civil War ancestor than you ever thought possible.  Order your soldier's Pension Records and discover important facts about your family's history.

A Pension Record contains all of the various documents that were accumulated relating to your soldier's application for a pension, or claims made by his widow or minor children's. Included would be paperwork from the claim approvals, denials, and subsequent reviews, typically documentation covering many years of your soldier's life.

Your soldier's actual claim will show his name, place of birth, date of birth, military units in which he served ranks achieved, and terms of service.  It usually provides his residence after service, his widow's application, including her maiden name, age, address, date/ place of marriage, and birth information of any children.  Underage dependents were also allowed to file claims and these can also include birth information and addresses.

Any paperwork accumulated resulting from the action the Pension Board or other authorities took regarding your soldier's claim, which could be quite a lot of correspondence (affidavits taken from relatives and neighbors, review board material, etc.) are also included.  Friends, relatives, and neighbors were often asked to supply information regarding the character and physical condition of the soldier, as well as any information pertaining to occupation.

Info We Will Need to Order a Pension Record

Your Soldier's NAME:  We will need to know the last name, first name, and if possible, the middle name or initial.  If you are not sure of your soldier's complete name, we suggest purchasing the SOLDIER SEARCH NAME LIST ($10.00 for the 1st page) which can expedite your search and greatly narrow the possibilities for finding the name your soldier used in his military service.

    Your Soldier's STATE:
UNION __  We will need to know the state in which your soldier served.  If you are not sure of your soldier's state affiliation, we suggest purchasing our SOLDIER SEARCH NAME LIST ($10.00 for the 1st page) which lists soldiers of the same or similar name along with their state affiliations.

Your Soldier's UNIT:  We will need to know the unit in which your soldier served.  These are usually numbered regiments or battalions (such as 26th N.C. Infantry or 1st Indiana Cavalry) but may also be a named unit, such as the Washington Artillery.  Please note the "type" of unit:  Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry, Sharpshooters, Engineers, etc.  If you do not know the unit in which your soldier served, we suggest purchasing our SOLDIER SEARCH NAME LIST ($10.00 for the 1st page) which lists unit affiliations of the soldiers.
