Your Soldier's NAME:  We will need to know at least the LAST NAME or a substantial portion of the LAST NAME; any additional information you can provide will result in a more refined and less costly search for your soldier.  It is helpful to know the state and/or unit with which the soldier served, but it is not required unless your soldier's name is a common one which results in too many hits for practical research.  For instance you many want us to search for all of the soldiers with the last name of "Eisman" in the entire Union Army.  For this rather unusual name, the search would be practical, resulting in only 8 names.  But if you were to ask for all of the soldiers in the entire Union Army with the last name of "Thomas" or "Jones" or "Smith" the results would be thousands of names, and it would not be practical to pursue such a search without further information.  If you are not sure whether or not you have enough information to request a Soldier Name List, please call or email us.
